Real Madrid president hails Mbappe at Golden Boot presentation event – ‘Proud to have a player like you’ | OneFootball

The event for the presentation of the European Golden Boot to Kylian Mbappe is currently underway at the Real Madrid facilities.

The French superstar finished last season – his debut campaign at Real Madrid – with 31 strikes in La Liga, while the tally rose to 44 goals in all competitions.

Mbappe ended the campaign as the highest-scoring debutant in a season in Real Madrid history, surpassing the long-standing record set by Ivan Zamorano in the 1992/93 season.

Florentino Perez heaps praise on Mbappe

Speaking at the event, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez paid tribute to Mbappe, praising his achievements in his debut season at the Spanish capital club.

“An award as prestigious as the Golden Boot is given to one of the best players in the world. It’s an award for commitment. I’m proud to have a player like you. Madrid fans support you from every corner of the globe,” said Perez.

“This club is the most decorated in the world. Last season you won the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. You scored 31 league goals, 44 in all competitions,” he added.

Recalling Real Madrid’s past Golden Boot winners, Perez continued: “At Real Madrid, we’ve had three Golden Boots: Hugo Sanchez, Ronaldo Nazario, and Cristiano.

“In your time here, you’ve experienced the demands of this badge. Only constant improvement and camaraderie will do. This Golden Boot helps you further enhance the history of Real Madrid. Congratulations to you and your entire family.”

Meanwhile, Juan Ignacio Gallardo, the representative of the European Sport Media, present at the event to hand the Golden Boot to Mbappe, also hailed the France captain.

“Only one person can be chosen to have the Golden Boot placed on their foot by European Sport Media, not on their foot, but in their home’s trophy cabinet,” he said.

Continuing, he added: “You earned this award with your extraordinary talent, your speed, your accuracy, your knack for scoring goals. You were the continent’s top scorer. This boot fits only your foot.

“Today you begin a collection. Your maturity on and off the field has won over all the fans. This Golden Boot fits you like a glove. Congratulations.”
