Real Madrid may be focusing on making signings and sales ahead of the new season, but one other major talking point they have to focus on is the renewal of Vinicius Jr.

Florentino Perez has made Vinicius’ renewal one of Real Madrid’s biggest priorities of the summer, even ahead of a possible move for Michael Olise.

According to Miguel Serrano, the Vinicius case has been stuck for too long, and the next meeting between the player’s representatives and Real Madrid could be decisive.

It could either put the Brazilian close to a new deal or push the situation closer to a possible exit. However, that is not the most interesting part.

It is the relationship between Vinicius and Florentino. Perez has been one of Vinicius’ strongest protectors since the Brazilian arrived at Real Madrid.

The bond between them is described as important, with Vinicius grateful to the president for how much he has defended him over the years.

Speaking about the situation, Serrano said:

“Vinicius committed himself to not leaving Real Madrid stranded. In any case, there is Vinicius’ gratitude toward Florentino Perez, who is the person who has defended him the most at Real Madrid since he arrived.”

Serrano went on to explain himself further:

“The reality is that in a negotiation process in which Real Madrid want to renew him and Vinicius wants to renew, but they cannot reach an agreement.”

“It is an idyllic relationship because Florentino Perez has done for Vinicius what he has never done for any footballer. All of that, Vinicius and his people, of course, seem to value and give importance to.”

A relationship that still matters

That personal connection could be decisive in a difficult negotiation. Vinicius wants to renew, and Real Madrid want him to renew, and that is important.

This is where Florentino’s role becomes crucial. Perez has taken command of the negotiation because the situation had become too frozen.

For Madrid, this is not only about money. Vinicius is a footballer, but he is also a symbol, a global figure and one of the faces of the club’s modern identity.

That is why Perez wants clarity. Signing Olise would depend on difficult external factors, especially Bayern’s position and Vinicius’ future.

Serrano said: “For Florentino Perez, Vinicius’ renewal is strategic. It is ahead in his order of priorities. Renewing Vinicius comes before signing Michael Olise.”

There is also a market logic. If talks break down, selling Vinicius would not be simple. Clubs would know Madrid are under pressure and could try to lower offers.

At the same time, Vinicius is strengthening his position with a strong World Cup. The better he plays, the harder it becomes for Madrid to imagine a future without him.

Real Madrid are caught in a catch-22 situation here, with the renewal talks going nowhere.

It remains to be seen whether Los Blancos eventually reach an agreement to tie down the Brazilian to a long-term contract and put this discussion to bed, once and for all.
