It is clear that Real Madrid and Barcelona are no longer the staunch allies they pretended to be in recent years when they had common objectives to fulfil.

After a period of diplomacy where the relations between the two clubs were positive, it now appears that all bridges are broken and the two sides could not be any further apart.

Relations between the two clubs began to deteriorate after the Negreira scandal came to light, revealing Barcelona’s involvement.

La Liga and UEFA’s ‘betrayal’ and siding with Barcelona further aggravated matters, and the relationship is now at an all-time low.

Perez’s mission

According to AS, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is willing to fight until the very end to see that justice is delivered in this particular matter and does not mind sacrificing relations with Barcelona in the process.

He is convinced that the payments made by the Catalans were used for an obvious bias by the referees towards them during the time of the payment and is hell-bent on seeing action being taken.

The report further states that Perez is ready to go as far as the courts to see the matter through and that he will seek official judicial support in the process.

Another important partner in the mission will likely be FIFA, which has been a great ally of Los Blancos in the various battles they have fought in recent times.

FIFA, too, is just awaiting the judge’s order to start taking action.

Barcelona claim that the payments were for refereeing reports, and Joan Laporta recently testified in court stating the same under oath.

Real Madrid, however, are sure that was not the case and will not rest until justice has been delivered.
