The rivalry between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid is one of the most famous and deeply rooted in world football. Seen as a defining battle of the sport, direct transfers between the two giants are extremely rare and often explosive when they occur.

The most infamous example of a direct switch between the two clubs remains Luis Figo’s transfer in 2000, when the Portuguese forward left Barcelona for Real Madrid in a world record move that sparked outrage among the Blaugrana fanbase. That episode, orchestrated by Florentino Perez during his first presidency, is still remembered in Catalonia as a hostile act rather than a mere sporting decision.

More than two decades later, Perez is once again being linked with the idea of unsettling Barcelona from within. According to ElDesmarque, the Real Madrid president is now dreaming of repeating that shock by setting his sights on Pedri, identifying the Barcelona midfielder as a long-term target for the 2027/28 season, despite the enormous obstacles involved.

The information was first revealed by journalist Siro Lopez on his YouTube channel and later confirmed by Roberto Gomez on ElDesmarque Madrugada. Both reports describe Pedri as Real Madrid’s major strategic target, with sources close to the club suggesting Perez views the signing as a statement move that would weaken Barcelona while strengthening Madrid.

Pedri is considered an indispensable figure at Barcelona and a cornerstone of their present and future. He remains under contract until 2030 and is protected by a staggering €1 billion release clause, making any potential move financially and logistically complex.

Beyond the contractual obstacles, Pedri’s emotional connection to Barcelona presents an even greater challenge. The €140 million-rated Spanish international has repeatedly expressed his happiness at the club and is widely regarded as a committed culé, factors that significantly reduce the likelihood of such a transfer materialising.

For Barcelona, the message remains clear. Pedri is not for sale, is fully committed to the club, and represents a cornerstone of its future. While history has shown that Florentino Perez is capable of audacious moves, the idea of Pedri following the path of Luis Figo remains, at least for now, firmly in the realm of fantasy.
