Real Madrid rally around Brahim Diaz after AFCON final debacle | OneFootball

The past few days have been nightmarish for Real Madrid and Morocco attacking midfielder Brahim Diaz.

Gifted with the golden chance to lead his national team to the Africa Cup of Nations glory, with a late penalty in the final against Senegal, the Real Madrid star fluffed his lines, opting to go with a tame Panenka attempt which Edouard Mendy saved easily.

With the game going into extra time, Senegal would go on to score in the 113th minute and lift the AFCON, leaving Brahim in tears and the Moroccan national team heartbroken.

Real Madrid offer full support to Brahim

Since the disappointing event, Brahim has issued an apology to the fans of the Morrocan team, while he has also received a lot of support from several major figures in the football fraternity.

Now, according to AS, Real Madrid have rallied around Brahim Diaz as he goes through this difficult moment. The club and the dressing room have conveyed their support for the 26-year-old.

On Sunday, alongside private messages of support, he also received virtual embraces from teammates on social media.

These came from his current teammates, from Vinicius Jr. to Alvaro Carreras, and from former Real Madrid players who continue to follow him closely, such as Sergio Ramos, Luka Modric, Nacho Fernandez, Lucas Vazquez and Joselu.

There were also club legends with whom he did not share a dressing room but who know him well, such as club ambassador Roberto Carlos, who sent positive messages.

Brahim will not have to return to training with the Real Madrid first team until Wednesday. After all, the team plan to count on the 26-year-old versatile star immediately, with Rodrygo Goes currently sidelined with injury.

So far this season, Brahim has made 18 appearances for the club, scoring one and assisting two goals.
