Real Madrid are already shaping their midfield plans for the 2026 summer transfer window, and one name is emerging above the rest – Enzo Fernandez.

According to an update shared by The Touchline, the Argentine international is the club’s primary target to reinforce the centre of the pitch.

However, there is a clear condition attached to that ambition. Real Madrid want to see consistency.

It is said that the club will assess Enzo’s physical condition and overall performance between now and the end of the season, with the World Cup set to act as the ultimate evaluation stage.

The message circling across is that the Argentine must prove he can dominate big tournaments and maintain high standards over a sustained period.

A search for an orchestrator

Real Madrid are actively searching for a midfield orchestrator, a player capable of dictating tempo, controlling possession and stepping into a leadership role.

In that context, another name admired within the club is Vitinha. The Portuguese midfielder has become a central figure for Paris Saint-Germain under Luis Enrique, operating as the engine of their system.

Yet, despite the admiration, Madrid see a deal as extremely complicated, as relations between Real Madrid and PSG remain strained, especially following Kylian Mbappe’s high-profile free transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Given that situation, it is highly unlikely PSG would entertain negotiations with Los Blancos. That scenario pushes Enzo Fernandez to the forefront.

The 25-year-old Chelsea midfielder is under contract until 2032, meaning any transfer would require a significant financial commitment.

Chelsea are in no rush to sell, and Madrid would need to structure a major offer to even open discussions.

In any way, what is known is that Real Madrid want some clarity on whether he can prove himself on the biggest stage and if he passes the test, one can expect the beginning of negotiations.
