Real Madrid receive positive news on player’s suspension following red card

During the first international break of the season earlier this month, Real Madrid were fortunate to have a number of their players stay at the club, as they were not called upon by their respective national teams. And for the next one, they will have at least one more player than usual not making the trip.

In France’s second match of the September international break, Aurelien Tchouameni was sent off for a crunching challenge on an Iceland player, which saw him receive a red card following a VAR check. Since then, he has been awaiting news on his suspension, and it has now dropped.

And it is good news for Real Madrid, as Le Parisien (via Diario AS) have reported that Tchouameni has been handed a two-match suspension, meaning that he will not be available for France’s next two 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Iceland, both of which are during the next international break.

Tchouameni will stay in Madrid next month

It means that Tchouameni will not be included in Didier Deschamps’ squad for the October matches, which is a huge relief for Real Madrid ahead of a gruelling schedule in the weeks after that international break. Given his importance to Xabi Alonso, a rest during this period will be much needed, as he will be counted upon a lot.

However, this could have a knock-on effect for Eduardo Camavinga, who could end up being Tchouameni’s replacement in the France squad. The 22-year-old made his return to action during Real Madrid’s victory over Espanyol last weekend, having not featured since April due to multiple injury problems.

Real Madrid will be keen for Camavinga to also stay at the club during the next international break, as they continue efforts to nurse him back to full fitness after five months out. But at the very least, it is pleasing for them to learn that Tchouameni will not be going with Les Bleus.
