While Kylian Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni, Ibrahima Konate, Marc Cucurella, and Jude Bellingham all reached the World Cup 2026 semi-finals, another Real Madrid player, Thibaut Courtois, saw his tournament end in the quarter-finals.

His Belgium side faced Spain in the quarter-finals, and the tie proved to be quite a tense affair. The two sides stood at 1-1 until the Merengue goalie had to leave the pitch due to a physical problem, and only a few minutes after his substitution, in the 7st minute, Belgium conceded the goal that decided the match in Spain’s favor, in the 88th minute.

The experienced goalkeeper had made several saves before being substituted, and the result of this match only highlighted his importance for his national team. However, his physical condition must have worried Real Madrid, especially as there is not a lot of time left till the start of the next season.

In this regard, there is some good news for the Merengue club. As MARCA has reported, Courtois underwent medical tests today, on Monday, at Valdebebas, and the results show that he is not suffering from any injury and it was only a scare that he faced in the World Cup game.

Although it ultimately proved to be a false alarm, this issue caused serious concern for Los Blancos as the shot-stopper had felt pain in the same area that had caused him significant problems only a few months ago.

Now, with the medical clearance, Thibaut Courtois can enjoy his vacations with a significant burden off his mind. He is expected to rejoin training at Real Madrid with the new coach, Jose Mourinho, with whom he had already worked earlier, at Chelsea. He will return to the club at the end of July, and hopefully, he will be able to continue showcasing his world-class talent and saving the Merengue goal for the upcoming season as well.
