The powers that be at Real Madrid recently rebuffed an approach on the part of La Liga rivals Villarreal, for a member of the club’s backline.
The player in question? Fran García.
As per a report from Diario AS, ‘Villarreal recently called the Madrid offices to ask about Fran García’.
The response, however, proved an unwavering one.
The brass at the Santiago Bernabéu, it is understood, made clear to their counterparts in Castellón that their Spanish international defender will be going nowhere this summer.
Though he remains firmly behind Ferland Mendy in the left-back pecking order in Madrid, García is considered an important member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
As much was evidenced by his 25 La Liga appearances this past season, giving rise to a haul of one goal and five assists.
With Alphonso Daves’ arrival from Bayern Munich looking increasingly unlikely to take place this summer, the Real Madrid board have therefore made clear their plans to keep hold of García for the coming 12 months, and potentially beyond.
