Spanish giants Real Madrid reportedly remain optimistic of signing Erling Haaland in the future.
The Norwegian has by far exceeded all aspirations since joining the Premier League in 2022, as he shatters record after record, showing no sign of slowing down, managing an astonishing 160 goal contributions in just 158 appearances for the Blues.
The 25-year-old is now the highest-scoring Norwegian in Premier League history and thanks to his stellar 2022-23 treble-winning campaign, Haaland is also the record holder for most goals in an English top-flight season, with 36 goals in 35 appearances.
His goalscoring prowess is unlike anything we’ve seen in football for a very long time, if ever. The numbers are simply phenomenal and with the striking viking yet to hit his prime years, he is already well on his way to becoming one of the best strikers in the game’s history. The heights this man-machine could reach will simply terrify opposition.
However, ever since joining Manchester City, there has almost always been background noise regarding a possible future switch to Barcelona or Real Madrid for the Leeds-born forward – with many, for some reason, perceiving it as inevitable despite Haaland putting pen to paper on a sensational 10 year contract in January this year.
In spite of this huge new deal running until 2034, Spanish journalist Jorge Picón has reported on El Desmarque Madrugada that Haaland remains tempted by the prospect of testing his talents in Spain at some point in the future.
Picón claims that the two-time Premier League winner wishes to play for Los Blancos and should this interest be mutual, Real Madrid and Florentino Pérez can take advantage of an ‘escape route from Manchester City’ made available to Haaland.
Prior to relaying his quotes, El Desmarque claims the journalist, who is portrayed as an expert in relation to Real Madrid, ‘didn’t hesitate to confirm the mutual interest’.
“He would very much like to play for Real Madrid, as his own entourage confirms,” Picón said, as relayed by Sport Witness. “Furthermore, as his agent Rafaela Pimenta has repeatedly stated, he is the master of his own destiny. He has an escape route from Manchester City, a release clause whose exact figure is still unknown.”Picón does, however, imply that the arrival of the Norwegian in Madrid made it more complex due to Los Blancos star Vinícius Júnior’s possibility of signing an extension past 2027 – which would hinder the possibility of the Manchester City man joining the list of Galácticos in the future.
“I wouldn’t separate this case from Vinicius’. He doesn’t close the door on renewing his contract, not at all, and both sides are confident it can happen. If Vinicius stays, I see Haaland’s arrival as a bit more difficult,” Picón added.
Speculation around one of the best players on the planet is, of course, expected, but it remains to be seen if Haaland and Real Madrid will act on this supposed ‘mutual interest’ and make use of this reported ‘escape route’ or not.
