Real Madrid remain concerned about Xabi Alonso’s project despite temporary relief | OneFootball

Real Madrid’s victory over Alaves may have eased immediate tension, but it has not erased the deeper concerns that continue to surround the club’s sporting direction. 

According to a report by Mario Cortegana in The Athletic, there is still unease within the club over the team’s overall performances, particularly the lack of in-game solutions and the ongoing struggles to control matches.

While the result helped stabilise the situation momentarily, it has not been viewed internally as a turning point. 

The feeling at Valdebebas is that Real Madrid remain far from where they need to be in terms of chemistry, tactical clarity, and consistency. 

And yet, there is optimism that the team can close out the year strongly with three consecutive wins before the break.

Alonso is still in a delicate situation

The outlet mentions that Real Madrid would prefer to keep Xabi Alonso in charge for as long as results continue to arrive. However, patience is extremely limited. 

The margin for error is effectively non-existent, and every fixture is being treated as a referendum on the project’s viability.

For now, the win against Alaves has calmed the atmosphere around Alonso’s future. 

In the days leading up to that match, uncertainty had reached uncomfortable levels, but for now, although the threat has receded, doubts persist. 

Those doubts mean that upcoming fixtures carry severe weight. The Copa del Rey tie has been identified internally as particularly critical. 

A setback at this stage of the competition would be viewed as disastrous and could trigger a decisive response from the hierarchy. 

While the club’s stance has not fundamentally changed since last week, the tolerance for failure has become razor-thin.

For now, Alonso remains in charge, and the club continues to back him publicly. But internally, the message is that results are the only shield, and performances must follow.
