Real Madrid are keen to keep Vinicius Junior at the club, but have no intention of making concessions for the Brazilian. It appeared negotiations over a new deal were to reach a conclusion in the spring, but Vinicius agents, according to all of the reporting, want him to be on a level footing with Kylian Mbappe in financial terms.
On Monday it was reported that Vinicius’ agent, Federico Pena, was at the Valdebebas training ground to meet with the club, and spent around two hours at the club, reportedly meeting with General Manager Jose Angel Sanchez.
However MD say that their information is that Vinicius’ contract situation was not discussed. They and El Chiringuito report that Pena discussed only sporting matters when it came to Vinicius, and the club were understanding of Vinicius’ frustration on Saturday after being with withdrawn by Xabi Alonso, given Vinicius is not at his best currently. They will not be getting involved in Alonso’s decision-making on the matter though.
Pena also represents Endrick Felipe, who returned to the squad on Saturday after four months out through injury, and his situation was also discussed during the meeting.
The idea that Los Blancos remain firm on their contract stance, with negotiations at a stalemate in recent months, is backed up by Marca. They say that Real Madrid have no intention of putting Vinicius on the same wages as Mbappe, and that Vinicius and the club both intend to sign a new deal. However if he does not do so on their terms by next summer, then it will be ‘time to look elsewhere’, with regard to Vinicius’ future.

When Mbappe arrived last summer, Vinicius had a legitimate claim to be the leader of this Real Madrid side, and the best player in it. However with Mbappe now fully in stride, and the defined leader of the side under Alonso, his negotiating position has been weakened over the past year. Alonso’s more sparing use of Vinicius (not completing 90 minutes this season, starting on the bench twice), has made it clear that on the pitch, as well as in the offices, Mbappe is top of the food chain.
