Real Madrid have made four signings so far in this summer transfer window, among which have also been two fullbacks, i.e., Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries. With these signings, the Merengues have significantly reinforced one of the areas that left a lot to be desired last season.
Los Blancos are particularly delighted with the signing of Cucurella, and he is expected to be the starter going forward, while Denzel Dumfries would deputize for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Despite these signings, a report from Diario AS claims that there is still some regret among the decision-makers at Real Madrid, for not having made a similar effort to sign another Spanish fullback, Pedro Porro, who has performed at an exceptional level during the World Cup 2026.
Los Blancos have been following the defender nicknamed the “Extramaduran Cafu” for several years now. They tried to sign him when he was still a youth player at Rayo Vallecano, but Girona offered him an easier way to top-level football, and he decided to join the Catalan team.
Since then, he has remained on the Merengue team’s radar. Recently, some of their decision-makers saw him as a replacement for Dani Carvajal, but others could not foresee him developing at such a rapid pace.
Only a few months ago, he had his future somewhat uncertain at Tottenham as his contract negotiations dragged on. Manchester City were prepared to make a big offer for him, but ultimately Tottenham were able to convince him to renew his contract.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid considered him, but he never turned into a priority target for them. His high price was one of the constraints for the Merengues, who already had Trent as a starter on the right flank, and ultimately decided to replace Carvajal with Dumfries, who is four years older than the Spaniard.
