Federico Valverde has sustained a serious left ankle injury after Real Madrid’s 1-2 derby defeat by Atlético de Madrid on Sunday, the club said in a statement.
The Uruguayan midfielder was on the end of a dangerous challenge from Lee Kang-in shortly before the interval, which was not penalised, yet he stayed on to finish the game.

Valverde has 76 caps and nine goals for Uruguay.
Real Madrid remain angered by the officiating of the match.
