UEFA has opened an investigation into alleged racist remarks by Gianluca Prestianni towards Vinicius Jr during Tuesday's play-off first leg between Benfica and Real Madrid.

The club said in a statement that it had actively cooperated with the process after unacceptable racist episodes during the match, and that it had supplied all available evidence.

Real Madrid also thanked the unanimous support, backing and affection shown to Vinicius Jr from across world football.

It highlighted a message from the UNFP on X praising the reactions of Kylian Mbappé, Aurélien Tchouaméni and referee François Letexier, and stating the union will always stand with players against discrimination.

The statement was released on Thursday.
