With the summer transfer window only a few months away, plans are starting to take shape at Real Madrid as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.

As has already been reported, it could be a quiet window for Los Blancos, with Trent Alexander-Arnold being their utmost priority.

However, it is not ruled out that a new midfielder is targeted by the reigning Spanish champions, considering they did not replace Toni Kroos and Luka Modric’s contract expires at the end of the season.

The likes of Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad and Bayern Munich ace Joshua Kimmich have been linked but now a new name has appeared on the club’s agenda.

Adam Wharton on Real Madrid’s radar

Indeed, according to talkSPORT in England, Real Madrid have set their sights on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.

The 21-year-old Wharton came through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers and has exploded since joining Palace, establishing himself as one of the most promising young midfielders coming through in the Premier League.

The youngster was part of the England squad for the UEFA Euro 2024 last summer after making his debut in a friendly against Bosnia.

Wharton spent more than three months out injured this season but has recently made his comeback and has not skipped a beat since returning – even putting in a Man of the Match display on his first start after injury against Aston Villa.

Real Madrid are understood to have impressed by Wharton’s talents and have sent scouts to watch him in action, with transfer chief Juni Calafat understood to be an admirer.

Manchester City also after Wharton

However, as per the report, Premier League champions Manchester City are also interested in Wharton.

In fact, Pep Guardiola’s side had plans to sign the Crystal Palace midfielder during the winter transfer window but instead decided to rope in Nico Gonzalez due to the former’s injury. However, they still hold an interest in him.

Furthermore, Manchester United and Liverpool also admire Wharton, although their priorities are elsewhere at the moment.

Given his rapid rise to stardom in the Premier League, a big move might be around the corner for Wharton. Whether it leads him to the Santiago Bernabeu remains to be seen.
