As reported earlier this week, Real Madrid are getting closer and closer to securing the signing of their top defensive target Dean Huijsen.

The 20-year-old AFC Bournemouth centre-half has emerged as the priority for Los Blancos to reinforce the defensive unit after already securing the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

A recent meeting took place between the youngster’s camp and Real Madrid officials and things are headed in the right direction.

Formal contract offer sent

Building on that, Fabrizio Romano now reports that Real Madrid have sent their formal contract proposal to Huijsen and his entourage today, with talks ongoing between the two parties.

As has already been reported by multiple reliable sources, the 20-year-old defender sees the Santiago Bernabeu as his priority despite courting interest from several other big clubs.

Indeed, the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool are all keen on the youngster and are waiting to pounce if there are any missteps in negotiations between him and Real Madrid.

For now, though, the Spanish capital giants appear to be leading the race for Huijsen having tabled their formal contract offer.

The 20-year-old has a £50 million (€58 million) release clause in his contract and Bournemouth have made it clear that there will be no negotiations as far as the fee is concerned. However, the amount can be paid in three instalments, easing the financial burden of the deal.

Real Madrid, for their part, had some concerns about paying the full fee but have changed their mind and are now pressing ahead to sign Huijsen, potentially in time for the FIFA Club World Cup next month.
