At a time when rivals Barcelona are struggling to get their iconic Camp Nou up and running, Real Madrid are aiming to polish the Santiago Bernabeu further.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Madrid City Council has approved an urban development project worth €19.6 million, aimed at transforming the area around the stadium and better integrating it with the surrounding neighborhood.

The project will be fully funded by Real Madrid and focuses on modernizing public spaces, improving accessibility, and enhancing pedestrian zones around the stadium.

What will the project bring to the table?

According to acting mayor Inma Sanz, the newly approved plans will align the urban design with the ongoing stadium renovation and the redevelopment of the nearby Bernabeu Metro station on Line 10.

One of the most striking changes includes increasing pedestrian space from 14,500 square meters to over 40,500 square meters, which accounts for a 270% jump.

The work aims to benefit both fans and local residents. Key elements include two new pedestrian crossings at Concha Espina and Padre Damian, improved traffic lights, and 36 new parking spaces for residents.

Additional facilities include 19 spaces for non-residents, 16 for motorcycles, and six for taxis, along with dedicated areas for people with reduced mobility.

The project focuses on four key areas: Rafael Salgado Street, Concha Espina Avenue, Castellana Front, and Padre Damián Street.

Notably, Castellana will feature a new 20,000-square-meter pedestrian plaza, a restored garden from the 1982 World Cup, and an extended bike lane.

All of this could go a long way in further enhancing the infrastructure around the stadium and make Bernabeu a complete experience for fans.
