Real Madrid have announced the signing of Dutch international Lineth Beerensteyn on a three-year deal until the summer of 2029.
The 29-year-old versatile forward joins the Spanish outfit for free after the expiration of her deal with former Frauen-Bundesliga champions VfL Wolfsburg.
Beerensteyn joined VFL Wolfsburg in 2024 and since her arrival, proved a consistent goal threat for the club. In her 62 matches in Germany, the Dutch forward hit the back of the net 34 times. Last season, she topped the league goalscoring charts with 17 goals in the same number of starts.
The forward will be a strong signing for Real Madrid, who have announced several departures in recent days. Earlier this week it was announced that Scottish internal Caroline Weir would be departing the club and singing for French giants OL Lyonnes. Alongside Weir, Naomie Feller announced she would be leaving to club after four years to pursue further opportunities.
With the loss of two large goal threats, Beerensteyn will surely fit seamlessly into Madrid’s plans for next season as they continue to try and close the gap on European champions Barcelona.
The 29-year-old will arrive in Spain with a wealth of experience under her belt. The forward spent early periods of her career in her native Netherlands with ADO Den Haag and FC Twente, before relocating to Germany.
First signing for Bayern Munich in 2017, the forward spent five years at the club where she became a league champion in the 2020/21 season. She then had a two-season spell in Italy with Juventus, before deciding it was time to return to Germany.
On the international stage, Beerensteyn has more than 100 caps to her name. In 2016, she made her senior international debut in a 1-0 friendly win against South Africa. She scored her first international goal in the same season against Scotland.
She also tasted success on the international stage when current Lioness boss Sarina Wiegman led her Netherlands side to victory at their home Euros in 2017. The success continued into the 2019 Women’s World Cup where Beerensteyn featured in all of the Netherlands’ matches as they reached the final before losing to the United States.
