Mestre, for his part, is a 19-year-old goalkeeper, who has been learning his trade on the books of the aforementioned Atlético for some time now.

The Spaniard has struggled for game-time across the season to date, on his way to just two appearances, both in the UEFA Youth League.

And yet, if the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, Mestre is nevertheless in line to put pen to paper on terms with the La Liga champions.

As per the aforementioned Relevo, Real Madrid have been tracking the progress of their arch rivals’ young shot-stopper for some time now.

Manu Fernández, Los Blancos’ youth academy director, is the leading figure behind the move, viewing Mestre as a potential star in the making.

With the youngster’s contract terms with Atléti due to expire in the summer, Real have in turn made their move, expected to imminently snap Mestre up as a free agent.
