A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid could be facing up to a lengthy spell in the stands.

This comes owing to developments in Real’s opening fixture of the Spanish top-flight campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti’s troops made the trip to Son Moix a short time ago, for a meeting with RCD Mallorca.

Los Blancos headed into proceedings no doubt desperate to get the defence of their title up and running with a three-point haul, fresh off securing the UEFA Super Cup in midweek.

When all was said and done, however, the evening’s visitors were forced to make do with a share of the spoils.

This came after Rodrygo’s opener was cancelled out decisively by Vedat Muriqi early in the 2nd-half.

On an altogether disappointing night’s work for Real Madrid, though, the woes of Ancelotti and co. were not confined solely to the eventual result.

In addition, the capital giants saw key defender Ferland Mendy sent for an early bath.

Owing to a dangerous, and frankly needless tackle deep into injury time, France international Mendy was shown a straight red card.

And, based on replays of the incident, Real Madrid could be without their first-choice left-back for some time…

This comes with Mendy’s challenge set to assessed by the governing powers in La Liga, who could very well decide that the reckless nature of his actions are worthy of a four-game suspension.
