It proved a night of altogether contrasting fortunes for Real Madrid stars past and present on Thursday.
This came as Kylian Mbappé enjoyed an outing to remember for France, whilst Cristiano Ronaldo was toiling in the colours of Portugal.
Beginning with the former, frontman Mbappé featured from the off for Les Bleus, in a World Cup qualifying meeting with Ukraine.
And en route to an eventual 4-0 romp, the 26-year-old proved himself the star of the show.
Adding an assist to a pair of goals of his own, Mbappé took his tally in the latter category to a remarkable 400 over the course of his career to date.
Turning focus towards Real Madrid’s greatest-ever goalscorer, however, Cristiano Ronaldo will no doubt be keen to forget November 13th altogether more quickly.
Like Mbappé, veteran frontman Ronaldo was afforded a starting berth, as Portugal made the trip to Ireland for a World Cup qualifier of their own.
When all was said and done, Roberto Martínez’s troops were condemned to the wrong side of a shock 2-0 result.
Not only that, but talisman Ronaldo was shown a 2nd-half red card, following a VAR review for an aggressive swing of his elbow in the Irish penalty area.
This marked the very first dismissal of the 40-year-old’s international career.
