A headline member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid will play no part for his country during the upcoming international break.
As much was announced on Monday afternoon, by the French Football Federation.
The player to have been sent home by Les Bleus ahead of upcoming meetings with Italy and Belgium? Ferland Mendy.
Stopper Mendy, for his part, was afforded a starting berth on Sunday, as Real Madrid locked horns with Real Betis in a La Liga clash.
The 29-year-old was hooked from proceedings midway through the 2nd-half, a change which, at the time, was considered tactical owing to Fran García’s superior attacking abilities.
If the latest word to have surfaced on Monday is anything to go by, however, it would appear that, in fact, Mendy may have been hauled off for reasons related to fitness.
This comes amid confirmation on the part of the French Football Federation that the left-back has been released from Didier Deschamps’ squad, owing to ‘an injury to his right tibia’.
Mendy has been replaced in the France setup by Lucas Digne.
