In a season that saw almost Real Madrid players struggle to find any real consistency, Eduardo Camavinga emerged as the biggest scapegoat.

If his injuries and lack of consistency weren’t already an issue, Camavinga’s controversial and infamous red card against Bayern Munich was the final nail in the coffin.

The sending-off led to mass criticism against the Frenchman, to a point where he lost all his confidence, with many expecting him to leave the club this summer.

Camavinga’s decline has also led to widespread rumours that he might not make it into the French team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

Big surprise in France squad

However, according to L’Equipe, Camavinga has, in fact, been selected for the France team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This is a major surprise considering the fact that France has no shortage of options in the middle of the park, boasting star talents including his teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.

While Tchouameni is destined to be a part of the squad too, Camavinga’s likely inclusion may come at the expense of other stars.

The report claims that the French World Cup squad will be announced later tonight.

Camavinga wants to stay

A potential World Cup could serve as a real boost to Camavinga’s confidence, with the Frenchman keen on proving himself at Real Madrid next season.

Despite widespread reports of Camavinga’s future, the midfielder wants to remain at the Bernabeu, while Real Madrid remain open to the situation.

It will be interesting to see how Camavinga performs in the World Cup, knowing a series of strong performances may not only boost his confidence but also drive up his market value, thus making it easier for Real Madrid to sell him, if required.
