Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois has this week secured for himself a special piece of history on the international stage.

This comes owing to his appearance in Belgium’s latest outing at the World Cup.

The Red Devils were back in action in the early hours of Saturday, locking horns with New Zealand in the respective nations’ final group stage fixture.

When all was said and done, Rudi Garcia’s troops emerged dominant victors, showing their class courtesy of a 5-1 romp.

Following the full-time whistle, it was Belgium’s attacking stars who grabbed the headlines, after the likes of Leandro Trossard, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku all found the target.

As alluded to above, though, it was the man at the other end who was in fact busy making history for his country.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has now racked up more World Cup appearances than any other player in the history of the Belgian national team (18).
