Despite being without Vinicius Jr. on the night, Real Madrid registered a thumping 2-0 win over Athletic Club, asserting their dominance as they continue to lead the charge for the La Liga title.

The protagonist on the night was Rodrygo, whose brace secured the impressive win for Real Madrid.

Speaking after the game, the forward, whose immediate future has been put into question due to the impending arrival of Kylian Mbappe, spoke on the subject, saying that although he does not know much about this, the Frenchman’s arrival would be a good headache for the manager.

“I don’t know about Mbappe yet. I think he’s close because everyone says so and I trust you, but I don’t know what’s happening either,” he said as quoted by MARCA.

“If Mbappe comes, I will be benched? It will be a happy problem for the manager. I’m only focused on Real Madrid,” he added.

It seems Rodrygo is clear that even if Real Madrid were to sign Mbappe to bolster their attacking lineup alongside Vinicius and Jude Bellingham, he is only focused on the current season as he wants to win the remaining trophies.

“I don’t think anything… I only think about being focused on this season and finishing it well, with as many titles as possible,” he said.

Adding his thoughts about the game, he said, “These three points are very important. We always have to add to get closer to the title.”

Meanwhile, Rodrygo, who was named the player of the match, also spoke about the return of Eder Militao, who stepped onto the field for competitive action for the first time since August. “I am much happier with Militao’s return than with my two goals,” said the Brazilian.

Lastly, Rodrygo also urged the fans to turn up in good numbers during their upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City. “We want the stadium to be dyed all white,” he said.
