Vinicius Jr. continues to be in the spotlight at Real Madrid, with the Brazilian international being at the receiving end of boos and whistles from the fans this past weekend at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It has been a turbulent campaign so far for the 25-year-old forward, thanks to his inconsistent form, tense relationship with manager Xabi Alonso, and rumblings around his future at the club.

After all, Vinicius’ contract at Real Madrid expires in 2027, meaning in a little over six months, he will be entering the final year of his deal.

Talks over a renewal have taken place but have failed to yield the desired result, leading to question marks over his continuity.

Vinicius wants to stay

However, according to an update from journalist Jorge C Picon, Vinicius Jr. wants to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu and has conveyed this privately to people close to him.

The Brazilian international believes that leaving Real Madrid would represent a step backwards in his career, especially if it were to move to Saudi Arabia.

However, at the same time, financial considerations carry weight and he wants the best possible terms before committing to a new deal.

Real Madrid, for their part, remain keen on an extension. They continue to trust that Vinicius will recover his form despite the player going through a lengthy lean patch.

But a large part of the reason for his contract talks stalling is financial. The former Flamengo wonderkid is asking for a renewal bonus that the club are currently not prepared to offer. The club remain open to negotiations, but not at any price.

No date set for new talks

As per the report, there is no date scheduled to resume negotiations over Vinicius contract renewal.

The situation remains exactly the same as it has been for several months: there is willingness on both sides, but no progress.

The feeling is that nothing will happen until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which represents Vinicius’ last major opportunity to recover the status he has been losing due to his performances of late and, in doing so, strengthen his position in negotiations.

All the noise surrounding the player does not help, but what seems clear is that Vinicius remains keen on staying at Real Madrid.
