Since the start of the pre-season earlier this week, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has called up a few young talents from the club’s youth and reserve ranks to train with the senior team.
Indeed, players like Diego Aguado and Daniel Yanez have been asked to work with the first-team squad.
But, perhaps, the youngster that seems to be generating the most excitement is teenage midfield gem Thiago Pitarch.
A gifted midfielder, Thiago Pitarch is set to get an opportunity to play for Real Madrid in their training match against Leganes today, reports journalist June Lavin.
The 18-year-old midfielder has been one of the standouts of the pre-season with Real Madrid Castilla this summer, making a big impression under new manager Alvaro Arbeloa.
Alerted by his talent and potential, Alonso was quick to call Pitarch up to train with the first-team squad this week, especially considering that he is seeking a midfielder of the teenager’s profile in his squad.
It appears that the young Spaniard has done enough to convince Alonso and his staff as he has regularly trained with the squad since his first call-up and will now get a chance to play in the behind-closed-doors game against Leganes.
The report mentions that Pitarch would be sitting out of Castilla’s pre-season friendly Against Andorra so that he can play for the senior team in the training game at Valdebebas.
It will certainly be interesting to see how the 18-year-old midfield gem fares when he gets an opportunity later today for Leganes.
If he does well, it will not come as a surprise to see Pitarch get another chance next week when Real Madrid take on WSG Tirol in a pre-season friendly in Austria.
