Nico Guillen is regarded as one of the most exciting up-and-coming midfield talents in Spain right now.
The youngster, who turned 18 today, has made a solid impression with his performances in youth competitions, and it is only a matter of time before he makes a breakthrough at the highest level.
Guillen’s rapid growth has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid and Barcelona among the clubs interested in his services.
However, much to the disappointment of Real Madrid, as well as Barcelona, Guillen has signed a contract extension with Sevilla.
On his 18th birthday, the young midfielder signed a contract until 2029, which will initially have a release clause worth just €20 million, reports AS.
That release clause is subject to increase depending on performance-related bonuses and a salary increase.
This serves as a major blow for Real Madrid, who were reportedly keen on acquiring the services of the teenage midfield prospect.
However, there is hope yet for Los Blancos given that the youngster’s release clause at Sevilla is still relatively low.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the player performs. Although he is yet to make his competitive debut, many expect that moment to come soon, especially after the contract extension.
There is a possibility that Sevilla might want to call him up to the first-team squad heading into the next match against Mallorca.
Real Madrid, to that end, will surely keep an eye on his progress, especially if he makes his competitive debut this coming week.
Real Madrid have been recently linked with a move for Aleksandar Pavlovic to fix their midfield woes. But a homegrown talent like Guillen could be more favourable for Los Blancos, provided the Sevilla prodigy does make a breakthrough during the second half of the campaign.
