Real Madrid have ended their pursuit of Benfica defender António Silva, removing him from their shortlist.

Fichajes reports that the 22-year-old was re-evaluated by the club’s sporting hierarchy a few weeks ago, and after years of monitoring, recent assessments led Madrid to rule him out.

His contract situation at Benfica remains unresolved, with no offer yet tabled despite Rui Costa stating on 23 October that talks were on track. The Portugal international is tied to the club until summer 2027.

Silva has been part of the first-team squad since 2022/23. Once a regular starter, he has lost some prominence in recent months under Bruno Lage and José Mourinho.

Valued at 30 million euros, he has made 30 appearances this season, 14 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, one in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça. Across 2,296 minutes, he is yet to register a goal or assist.
