Sunderland’s recruitment team are monitoring developments across Europe as the summer window nears, with several familiar names back in focus.

The Athletic reports that Real Madrid are prepared to listen to offers for 22-year-old forward Gonzalo García this summer, but are not open to selling 19-year-old Endrick, who is on loan at Lyon. Both were loosely linked with Sunderland last year, yet nothing materialised.

L’Équipe suggests Ousmane Dembélé is currently unwilling to enter contract extension talks with Paris Saint-Germain. The 28-year-old could therefore become available, and a Premier League move has been floated as a possibility.

Dembélé’s situation has drawn interest on Wearside given his personal connection with chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus. He has previously attended Sunderland matches while at Barcelona, although there is no indication at this stage that the Black Cats would pursue him. Any such move would mark a major shift, with Europe’s elite clubs likely to compete if he is on the market.

Closer to home, Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a major blow, with captain Cristian Romero set to miss the rest of the season through injury. The Argentina defender was forced off during Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at the Stadium of Light after a collision with goalkeeper Antonín Kinský while trying to deal with Brian Brobbey. There remains hope he could recover in time for the World Cup.
