La Liga giants Real Madrid are one of a number of clubs set to be left frustrated in their pursuit of Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong.

This comes amid confirmation that the defender is close to committing to fresh terms in west London.

Acheampong’s name has long proven a prominent one in the transfer headlines across the continent.

This comes after the 18-year-old’s insistence on dragging his feet over renewing the terms of his contract with Chelsea culminated in Acheampong being banished from first-team and reserve team duties alike.

A number of leading European clubs, in turn, quickly made their interest in his signing known, with the aforementioned Real Madrid at the front of the queue.

If the latest word stemming from Stamford Bridge is anything to go by, however, then Los Blancos, along with any other interested parties, need not get their hopes up.

Speaking to the media in the buildup to his side’s Europa Conference League meeting with Astana, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca announced:

“With Josh (Acheampong) everything is very clear. We all want Josh, the club wants Josh, I want Josh and we are trying to reach an agreement. We are close, almost. We will see.”
