Real Madrid suffered greatly in their midfield department after the retirement of Toni Kroos last year. Luka Modric is now set to leave as well, leaving Los Blancos heavily depleted in the middle of the park.
Heading into next season, there is a strong need for a new midfielder who can not only provide stability but creativity to the team’s dynamics.
While well-established names are indeed being considered, the club is also closely monitoring some of the best young talents in the department with Franco Mastantuono being a top target.
Real Madrid have been linked with the youngster for a long time now and even scrutinized his profile last summer.
As revealed by AS now, Los Blancos still see him as a great player to pursue and are interested in his signing. However, there are doubts over bringing the player in this summer or at the end of the year.

There had been some issues between the club and the teenager’s camp in the past but it appears that Real Madrid are willing to move past that episode.
However, from the club’s perspective, the administration wishes for clarity over their financial situation after the other operations this summer to see where they stand on paying out his €45 million release clause.
After all, they will also make money from player sales in the summer and the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup and will take a decision considering their situation at that point.
From Mastantuono’s side, the player wishes to play the Copa Libertadores with his team in November this year which is a hurdle for Real Madrid if they wish to sign him immediately.
The Mastantuono operation, thus, appears to be at a standstill at the moment and will only be decided after a couple of months. Until then, one can expect silence on Real Madrid’s interest.
