While Barcelona celebrated being crowned La Liga champions after their victory over Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou, frustration quickly took over on the Madrid side following a controversial refereeing moment late in the match.
As such, much of the post-match discussion from the Madrid camp focused on an incident involving Eric García and Jude Bellingham.
The challenge occurred deep into stoppage time with Barcelona already leading 2-0.
Bellingham was left on the ground after contact from Eric Garcia, but neither the referee nor the VAR team, led by Iglesias Villanueva, decided to intervene.
The incident triggered a furious reaction from Real Madrid TV commentators during the live broadcast, with several explosive comments aimed at both the officiating and the television production.
As frustration grew over the lack of replay angles being shown, the commentary team strongly criticised La Liga and the handling of the situation.
“The Spanish league isn’t serious. The Spanish league, Tebas’s league, Negreira’s league. It’s a circus and a joke. This is terrifying.
“What a disgrace the Spanish league’s production is.”
The complaints did not stop there, as the broadcasters questioned why clearer replays of the incident were never provided during the match coverage.
“Whenever there have been controversial incidents, we’ve seen a very clear wide shot when Real Madrid were the ones committing the foul.
“Suddenly, once again, the broadcast is hijacked during a decisive foul.”
Real Madrid TV also argued that supporters watching at home were intentionally prevented from seeing the full sequence of the incident involving Bellingham.
“It could have been a red card for Dani Olmo. Viewers are being denied a replay of something that has clearly happened.
“If we haven’t seen it by now, we’re not going to see it, just like so many other things that weren’t shown—because they didn’t want to show Mbappe bleeding.”
The commentary team then suggested that the absence of replay footage only increased suspicion surrounding the decision-making process.
“The fact that they’re not showing the footage already gives you an idea of what might have happened, given the history.
“If they’d shown it, there wouldn’t have been a problem.”
As the debate continued, Real Madrid TV made its position completely clear regarding the Eric Garcia challenge, insisting that both a penalty and a red card should have been awarded.
“Perhaps a push to the neck is something more serious, but we haven’t seen it.
“What we have seen is an elbow from Eric Garcia, which is, clearly, first and foremost a penalty and also a sending-off.”
Despite the anger toward the officials, the broadcasters admitted that Real Madrid themselves did not produce their best display at Camp Nou.
However, they still accused VAR of deliberately refusing to correct what they viewed as a clear refereeing mistake.
“This is yet another example of VAR failing to act, which does nothing to rectify what may well be an injustice.
“If this is deemed part of the game, then anything could be deemed part of the game; anyone who has played football knows that Eric García does that on purpose.”
The criticism concluded with another direct attack on VAR’s consistency in matches involving Real Madrid.
“Whenever there are controversial incidents, VAR intervenes when it suits them. And when does VAR intervene? It intervenes solely to harm Real Madrid.”
