On Saturday, Real Madrid surprised everyone by introducing a new anthem at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. According to Marca, the big reveal came during the match against Valencia: Metallica’s iconic hit “Enter Sandman” blasted throughout the stadium as the starting lineup was announced. The rock-infused choice electrified the crowd, who chanted the players’ names in sync with the song’s driving rhythm.

This track has been the official anthem of the Virginia Tech Hokies in the NCAA since 2000, played as the players take the field in front of 65,000 fans. Real Madrid has now decided to adopt it as well. The new ritual clearly struck a chord with the Merengue faithful packed inside their home fortress.
