Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal has unexpectedly found himself at the centre of controversy following comments he made about Lamine Yamal and Vinicius Jr.

Carvajal spoke warmly about Lamine Yamal, who is his teammate in the Spanish national team but also one of his fiercest rivals at club level.

The 18-year-old played a decisive role in Barcelona’s victories over Madrid last season, something Carvajal openly acknowledged.

“The boy is making changes in his game for the better by leaps and bounds. We enjoyed it in the national team. He is very young and leads a club like Barcelona,” he said, in what many took as high praise for the young Barça talent.

This did not go well

Interestingly, some Madrid supporters were not impressed by Carvajal’s words, suggesting that he showed too much admiration for a Barcelona player.

One fan reacted sharply: “Vinicius can say that the best full-back in history is Cafu. He can say that the best player in history is Pele.

“But no, he chooses Carvajal and Cristiano. Because he puts his Real Madrid ahead of the national team. As it should be. Some should learn.”

Carvajal, who has been with Madrid since his youth and is one of the most decorated players in the club’s history, recently took part in laying the first stone at Valdebebas Sports City.

His legacy at Madrid is already set in stone, but some fans reminded him that loyalty to the club must remain absolute until his final day as a player.

Remarks on Rodri

The discontent grew after his remarks about Rodri, the Manchester City midfielder and Ballon d’Or winner, who has long been admired by Madrid and linked with a possible move to the Bernabeu.

“Hopefully, he’ll be able to join us at the club in the future because he’s a great player, but for now, I understand that he’s just coming back from a long injury and wants to repay the trust the club has placed in him,” Carvajal said.

While his words seemed harmless, some fans recalled the moment Rodri mocked Vinicius during City’s celebrations and questioned Carvajal’s judgment in praising him so openly.

“Carvajal was at Madrid when Casillas had the farewell he had. He is 33 years old, has won six Champions Leagues, and is unanimously loved by his fans.

“He’s old enough to decide how he wants to approach the final stage of his club career, and it would be a shame if he let himself be swayed by the RFEF-FCB environment,” another fan argued.

For what it is worth, all this reflects nothing but a growing sentiment that the captain is too accommodating when representing Spain.
