Real Madrid’s centre-back situation has been stable from the beginning of the season, especially with Dean Huijsen coming in and serving as a leader in the department.

The Spaniard’s injury, however, has once again left the manager with his thinking hat on ahead of tonight’s clash against Getafe, with Eder Militao the only guaranteed starter in the department.

David Alaba and Raul Asencio are the only available natural replacements in the squad, and all signs point to the latter being the preferred option given his age and relatively better fitness record.

Alaba, however, is determined to change that. According to AS, he wishes to get back to being a more important part of the manager’s plans.

Positive sensations

As relayed by the publication, the Austrian star feels pain-free and fully recovered from the various setbacks he has faced over the past year.

Now, he is hell-bent on improving his prominence in the squad.

Alaba does not wish to be the fifth-choice centre-back at the club and wants to be the old Alaba once more who is counted on by the management as a handy and experienced option.

In order to achieve the same, the player must show that he is indeed back to his physical best and that his injuries have not left him slower than he was before.

Further, he will have to prove he can stay consistent not only with his form but his fitness.

With Huijsen likely to miss a couple of more games through his injury, the coming fixtures might see the veteran star receive more playing time and a field to use as an audition.

His performances, needless to say, will dictate his place on Alonso’s pecking order.

After all, his future currently seems increasingly away from the Spanish capital as it stands as the club do not plan on renewing his contract which expires at the end of the season.
