Real Madrid veteran wants to stay, waiting for club to contact over renewal | OneFootball

Dani Carvajal is the most experienced player in the Real Madrid squad currently and happens to be the first captain as well.

However, injuries have prevented him from playing regularly so far this season and have also cast uncertainty over his future at the club, considering his contract expires in June.

Now, according to Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, Carvajal would like to continue at Real Madrid beyond this season and is waiting for the club to make contact over a potential renewal.

However, those close to the 34-year-old indicate that it might be too early to make a final decision over his future.

As far as Real Madrid are concerned, they consider their captain an “institution”, and as such, his renewal is not considered as a standard procedure.

Those at the club insist that Carvajal does not have to wait until the end of the season to discuss the matter of his extension, and any decision that they arrive at will be a “mutual agreement” and not a one-sided decision.

Meanwhile, some sources close to the player have described the renewal as complicated due to the physical issues that have been plaguing him this season.

Carvajal suffered a knee injury in October last year that required him to undergo arthroscopic surgery. Even though he has been back for a month now, the 34-year-old has barely played since, with complete recovery taking some time.

So, it remains to be seen how things evolve in the coming weeks. What is clear is that if he were to leave, Carvajal is unlikely to remain in Europe as he does not want to play for a club who could end up facing Real Madrid.

The veteran captain has previously hinted that clubs in the MLS, Saudi Arabia, or Qatar, where his close friend Joselu plays, could be options for him if he leaves.
