Real Madrid face Valencia at Mestalla on Sunday as Alvaro Arbeloa resumes his La Liga campaign with the title race open.

Real Madrid return to La Liga action on Sunday 1 February with difficult away trip against Valencia.

The match will be played at Mestalla as part of matchday 23 of the 2025 /26 season.

The game marks another important test for Madrid under head coach Alvaro Arbeloa as the club looks to keep pressure on the leaders in the title race.

League positions and recent results

Real Madrid go into the match in second place with 54 point sitting four point behind Barcelona.

The leaders strengthened their position on Saturday with 3-0 win over Mallorca taking their total to 58 point.

Valencia meanwhile are fighting at the other end of the table.

The hosts are 16th with 23 point and every result is vital as they try to move away from the relegation zone.

Playing at home, Valencia will look to use the Mestalla atmosphere to trouble one of the league’s strongest sides.

What’s at stake for both teams

For Real Madrid, the match is about staying in the title race. Dropping points could widen the gap at the top while a win would keep the pressure firmly on Barcelona.

For Valencia, the focus is on survival. Facing top opponent brings risk but also opportunity especially at home.

A positive result could give them major boost in confidence and points at critical stage of the season.
