Real Madrid’s search for a new midfield controller is gathering pace, but not every name on their shortlist is convincing the decision-makers at Valdebebas.

Among the players being closely monitored is Angelo Stiller, a standout performer for Stuttgart who has built a reputation as one of the Bundesliga’s most composed playmakers.

The interest is not new, as Real Madrid have been tracking Stiller since last summer, largely due to his stylistic similarities with Toni Kroos.

His ability to dictate tempo, recycle possession, and control the rhythm of a game makes him an attractive option, especially for a team looking to fill a growing creative void in midfield.

However, admiration does not always translate into action.

Too expensive

One of the biggest obstacles in this potential move is the €50 million price tag, as reported by Defensa Central

For a player who is still developing and not yet proven at the very highest level, that figure is seen internally as steep.

Real Madrid are known for being calculated in the market, and there is a feeling that similar, or even better, profiles may be available for a comparable investment.

This is where the debate intensifies.

While Stiller excels in orchestrating play from deeper areas, there are concerns about his overall impact across all phases of the game.

Defensively, he is not considered particularly dominant, and when it comes to influencing play closer to the opposition’s penalty area, his output is relatively modest.

That comparison becomes more striking when placed alongside other targets.

There are other options

Players like Enzo Fernandez, for example, offer a more complete package in terms of attacking contribution.

The Chelsea midfielder has already been directly involved in 18 goals this season, combining both scoring and creative output at a higher level.

Stiller’s numbers, while respectable, 10 assists and one goal, show his strengths as a facilitator rather than a decisive final-third presence.

For Real Madrid, who often rely on midfielders to contribute in attacking moments, that could be a limiting factor.
