Following the departure of Nacho Fernandez and the impending exit of Rafa Marin, Real Madrid are ready to step up their efforts to sign a new centre-back this summer.

Leny Yoro of LOSC Lille is the priority target for Los Blancos, but the 18-year-old’s club are posing a hurdle in negotiations due to their extravagant transfer fee demands.

Amidst this, reports suggested that Real Madrid have identified Bologna and Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori as an alternative if they miss out on Yoro.

Real Madrid rule out move for Calafiori

However, according to COPE, Real Madrid have definitively ruled out a summer move for Riccardo Calafiori.

The Merengues have no intentions to sign the Italian centre-back and will not make any move for him in this window.

The links to Calafiori surfaced mainly through the Italian media after the 22-year-old put on a couple of impressive showings for the national team at the UEFA Euro 2024.

Having joined Bologna last year from FC Basel, Calafiori impressed in his debut season with the club and then did well when given a chance at the Euros, paving the way to speculations over his future.

But, as things stand, Real Madrid do not intend to sign the 22-year-old, who has a market value of €30 million.

The Spanish and European champions’ main and only objective to reinforce the centre-back department this summer is Leny Yoro.

Even though things might not be as advanced as being reported, the hope is for the club to sign the 18-year-old in the next two weeks, around the time pre-season starts.
