Xabi Alonso finds himself under immense pressure after having been able to guide Real Madrid only two wins in their last eight games across all competitions.

There were serious questions raised over his future after last weekend’s defeat to Celta Vigo in La Liga, with speculation suggesting that the midweek Manchester City encounter would be the last chance for the 44-year-old tactician.

However, despite falling to another defeat, Real Madrid opted not to act and give Alonso another chance to turn things around.

Alaves game will be the last straw

Now, though, according to Jose Luis Sanchez on El Chiringuito TV, Real Madrid will move to sack Xabi Alonso if the team fails to win their next game.

Los Blancos take on Deportivo Alaves in La Liga away at the Mendizorroza on Sunday night, hoping to arrest their downfall.

Failure to secure all three points on their trip to Vitoria would very likely end in a sacking for the Real Madrid head coach.

Having held a five-point lead over Barcelona after the Clasico win in late October, Alonso’s men find themselves four points behind the Catalans now.

Furthermore, they have lost two of their previous three matches in the UEFA Champions League – against Liverpool and Manchester City.

The poor results and alleged unrest in the locker room have made Alonso’s position untenable.

Some of the players came out to speak in support of him after the defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday, but unless things take a turn for the better on the pitch, the manager’s job hangs by a thread.

Failure to win on Sunday, thus, could turn out to be a fatal blow for the former midfielder and club legend.
