Real Madrid centre-back Joan Martinez has confirmed he has agreed to extend his contract with the reigning La Liga champions.
The 17-year-old centre-back was one of the stars of pre-season and was set to be promoted to Carlo Ancelotti's first team before a serious ACL injury in August brought his progress to an abrupt halt.
Despite his unavailability, Madrid wasted little time in trying to tie Martinez down to fresh terms, well aware that one of the top talents in their youth academy had now impressed on a global stage.
Confirming an agreement, Martinez took to social media to reveal: "I am very happy and excited to renew my contract with this great club, the best in the world. Now, more excited than ever, I'm ready for whatever is to come."
Martinez remains on a youth contract but Madrid have offered a small boost to those terms, before his new senior deal will kick in in 2026.
According to MARCA, Martinez's new contract includes a release clause worth over €50m (£41.9m).
Martinez underwent surgery on his injury in early September and has been tipped to return to training around March, although Ancelotti will be keen to avoid taking an unnecessary risks with the young prospect.
