The Brazilian has issued an apology for his outburst during Real Madrid’s El Clasico victory
Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed Vinicius Jr will face no further action following his extraordinary reaction to being substituted against Barcelona.
Los Blancos claimed victory in the first El Clasico of the season last weekend as goals from Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham ended a run of four straight defeats at the hands of their bitter rivals.
However, the win was somewhat overshadowed by two incidents - both involving Vinicius Jr as he also clashed with Lamine Yamal after the final whistle at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Prior to that, the Brazilian expressed his frustration at being replaced by Rodrygo in the 72nd minute by going straight down the tunnel, though he did later return to the bench to cheer on his team-mates.
As Vinicius walked off the pitch, cameras from broadcaster DAZN picked him up saying: "Always me! I'm leaving the team! It's better if I leave, I'm leaving."
Upon reflection, the winger took to social media earlier in the week to issue a public apology for his actions.
"Today I want to apologise to all the Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clasico," he posted on X, formerly Twitter.
"Just as I have already done in person during today's training, I also want to apologise again to my team-mates, the club, and the president.
"Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive character stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents."
Interestingly, the statement did not directly mention Alonso amid reports the pair have fallen out. Nevertheless, the Real Madrid boss has accepted the apology and confirmed the matter is now closed.
“On Wednesday, after the two days off, we had a meeting with everyone and he was impeccable,” the Spaniard told reporters on Friday. “He spoke from the heart, with sincerity.
“I was very satisfied and from that moment, for me, the matter was settled. Tomorrow, we have the match, which is the most important thing. There is no further action.
“I have already given enough explanations. I understand that your focus is there and I respect that, but it has been closed since Wednesday and our focus is on the pitch.”
The outburst from Vinicius did garner a media debate as to whether he should be dropped from the Real Madrid team for games against Valencia, Liverpool and Rayo Vallecano before the international break.
Ultimately, Alonso has decided against taking such action but it does remain to be seen if the Brazilian is picked to start Tuesday night’s Champions League tie at Anfield.
