As reported earlier today, Real Madrid have reached an agreement to renew the contract of academy graduate Raul Asencio until 2031.

The 22-year-old Spaniard enjoyed his first-team breakthrough this season, making the most of his chances when the team was dealing with a plethora of injury woes.

The youngster has agreed on a new deal for five more years and is all set to be the Merengues’ starting centre-back at the FIFA Club World Cup alongside new signing Dean Huijsen.

€1 billion release clause

Building on the update, journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Asencio has already signed his new contract with Real Madrid, committing himself to the club until 2031.

Back in March, Los Blancos had triggered a clause in his old academy contract to renew his deal until June 2029. While doing so, they had aso removed his old €50 million release clause.

Now, Real Madrid have handed Asencio improved terms altogether until 2031. And as part of the new extension, the 22-year-old centre-back’s release clause has been set at a mammoth €1 billion, reports Romano.

New number for Asencio

On top of that, journalist Miguel Angel Diaz of COPE reports that Asencio will be given a new shirt number at Real Madrid next season.

The 22-year-old wore the #35 shirt this season, but will get a first-team number between 1 and 25 next term with his contract renewal.

However, the update states that the Spanish youngster will play at the FIFA Club World Cup with his current #35 shirt itself.
