An insight into the updated plans of the powers that be at La Liga giants Real Madrid, are missing out on a leading summer transfer target, has today been provided.

The subject of reinforcements, or rather a lack thereof, has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital across the day to date.

This comes amid widespread confirmation that Leny Yoro’s patience, whilst waiting for Real Madrid to close a deal for his signature, has finally worn out.

The 18-year-old has, in turn, agreed to take his talents to England, with sleeping Premier League heavyweights Manchester United.

So, what next for the Spanish champions?

As per a report from Marca, Real’s central defender search, for the time being at least, has been shelved.

Los Merengues are expected to source fresh blood at the back before the summer is out, but Yoro’s change of heart will delay as much until later in the window.

The new ‘priority’ for those behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu is therefore the renewal of Ferland Mendy’s contract.

Carlo Ancelotti has made clear to Florentino Pérez and co. that he considers Frenchman Mendy an absolutely pivotal member of his squad moving forward.

Ahead of the expiration of the left-back’s current terms in 12 months’ time, focus will therefore now turn towards tying the former Lyon standout down to a new deal.
