Spain absolutely dominated and dumped France out of the FIFA World Cup last night in the semifinal of the competition.
While many called La Roja favourites ahead of the entire event, their performances were considered to be significantly poorer than those of France, and Les Bleus were the favourites heading into the semifinal.
A comprehensive team performance, however, saw the Spanish national team humble the champions of 2018 as they not only held possession but attacked with purpose and defended with serious solidity for ninety minutes.
The only Real Madrid player at the FIFA World Cup is Marc Cucurella, after the player signed for the club just before the first game of the tournament.
Since then, he has shown nothing but class down Spain’s left flank and has been defensively solid and a major attacking outlet on the transition.
The player’s numbers speak for themselves, and he has been absolutely immense for La Roja, especially in the knockout stages. After all, he has not been dribbled past a single time in the entire knockout stage of the competition.
His performance against Austria in the Round of 32 was phenomenal as he racked up two assists without being dribbled past. Against both Portugal and Belgium, he went up against some of the best wingers in the world but simply pocketed them with ease.
Last night, he went up against Michael Olise in the game against France. Facing off against one of the competition’s most in-form wingers, Cucurella kept Olise silent throughout and continued the same with Rayan Cherki after he came on.

The ongoing World Cup has caused Cucurella’s valuation to peak, and Real Madrid will be glad to have completed the transfer at the right time.
Heading into next season, there is little to no doubt that the Spaniard will be Jose Mourinho’s go-to left-back ahead of even Alvaro Carreras, and it is safe to say that Real Madrid’s left-wing will be one of the most dangerous in the world.
With Cucurella prepared to make attacking runs and overlaps on the left-flank alongside Vinicius Jr.’s explosive pace and dribbling prowess, Real Madrid’s attack will go to a whole new level come next season. At this rate, the defender will prove to be a star signing.
