Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio is set to face charges of allegedly distributing child pornography, after a police investigation was finalised. The incident, which occurred in 2023, and was reported to the authorities in August, implicates three more former Real Madrid academy players, all of who have since moved on.
Asencio, Ferran Ruiz, Andres Martin and Juan Rodriguez are accused of recording and then distributing sexual content of two women without their consent, one of whom was underage. Due to the latter, the accused are also facing potential charges of child pornography distribution. On Wednesday, the High Court of Justice in the Canary Islands communicated that the investigation had been concluded, and the judicial process could now begin, as explained by Diario AS.

The two women involved, 16 and 18 at the time of the incident, have since presented with symptoms of post-traumatic stress following the events. The findings of the investigation have been sent to the public prosecutor and the two victims to see if they will press charges.
Real Madrid have not commented on the incident with regard to any of their players at the time, nor Asencio since. The 22-year-old did address the matter in an interview in March, noting that he was ‘calm’ about the situation, as he was conscious of his actions during the incident. Los Blancos are set to hand Asencio a new five-year deal until 2030, which has already been agreed with the player.
In late February, Carlo Ancelotti substituted Asencio at half-time during a Copa del Rey semi-final with Real Sociedad and explained that he had been affected by abuse from the crowd. Fans, as has happened on several occasions, were heard chanting ‘Asencio, die’. The Real Madrid defender has become a regular target for opposition fans, and on Sunday during El Clasico, Barcelona fans chanted ‘Asencio, go to prison’.
