Real Madrid’s transfer activity has drawn praise from one of the club’s most respected former figures, with Guti expressing his approval of the work being done behind the scenes ahead of the new season.

After a campaign in which defensive injuries repeatedly disrupted the team’s plans, the club has made strengthening the backline a major priority.

The likes of Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konate and Marc Cucurella have already been secured, while further reinforcements could still arrive before the transfer window closes.

Guti believes the club’s strategy is exactly what was needed and feels the squad is moving in the right direction under Florentino Pérez and new manager Jose Mourinho.

Guti praises Real Madrid’s defensive rebuild

The former midfielder has closely followed Real Madrid’s transfer business and believes the club has correctly identified the area that required immediate attention.

“Real Madrid is strengthening well. In recent years, there were deficiencies in defence due to injuries, and what they wanted was to start from the bottom and create a solid defensive structure.

“Up front, they already have enough,” he said, as per Defensa Central.

According to the same outlet, sources close to the club acknowledge that reinforcing the defence was among the primary objectives heading into the summer market.

Repeated fitness issues affecting key players forced the club to rethink its planning and invest heavily in strengthening the backline.

Three options to strengthen Mourinho’s squad

Real Madrid have already moved to address those concerns, though, with the arrivals of Konate, Dumfries and Cucurella.

These additions provide Mourinho with more options across multiple defensive positions and reduce the dependence on players who have struggled with injuries.

The situation is particularly relevant given the physical setbacks experienced by defenders such as Antonio Rudiger and Eder Militao in recent seasons.

While both players remain important members of the squad, Real Madrid’s recruitment strategy suggests the club is determined to avoid repeating the same problems that affected previous campaigns.

The defensive rebuild has, therefore, become one of the defining themes of the summer.
