Oriol Romeu is somehow still contracted to FC Barcelona. The 33-year-old midfielder has absolutely no future at the Catalan club but he continues to be on the club’s books, looking to sort out a transfer.
The most likely situation is for the club to tear up Romeu’s contract and give him the letter of freedom. The Spanish veteran has significant interest from clubs in Spain and being a free agent would help help a move.

Now, as per Fichajes, La Liga newcomers Real Oviedo want to sign Oriol Romeu this summer. Veljko Paunovic wants a player with the ex-Girona man’s experience as they look to make a name in La Liga.
Romeu spent last season on loan at Girona. It was his second stint at the club under Michel. The Spanish tactician continues to rate the Spaniard but clubs are waiting for him to resolve his future with Barcelona.
As per the report, Oviedo know that it would not be easy to convince Oriol Romeu to sign for them due the interest that he has from other Spanish clubs. However, they are still keen to try.
Romeu, labeled as a ‘perfectionist’ by Xavi Hernandez, is a proper defensive midfielder who loves engaging in physical duels. He is a ball-winner who can also conduct play to an extent but he was found wanting at Barcelona’s level.
However, as he has shown in numerous games for Girona, Romeu is the kind of profile many coaches love having in their squad. He is a no-fuss midfielder who knows how to get the job done.
With his advancing age, a move to a club like Oviedo would give the veteran some purpose and the desire to succeed in a new challenge. The other option is to fallback on familiar tropes like Girona.
It remains to be seen if Barcelona negotiate an exit for the Spaniard in the coming days. His second stint at La Blaugrana has not worked out, and it is time for both parties to part ways.
